Description
Tom Waits' Rain Dogs is widely hailed as his most critically acclaimed album. It continues the musical journey he started with Swordfishtrombones and is part of a de - facto trilogy with Swordfishtrombones and Franks Wild Years. Recorded in a Lower Manhattan basement in New York, this 53 - minute, 19 - track album is like a mutant, late 20th - century musical 'Canterbury Tales' with a shape - shifting band. The album features a unique blend of instruments like banjos, marimbas, bowed saw, parade drums, and howling horns, and even includes the talents of Keith Richards and Marc Ribot. Waits uses his voice in increasingly wild and strange ways, and the songs tell stories, sagas, laments, and more. Standout tracks include the aching 'Hang Down Your Head' and the moving 'Downtown Train', covered by Patti Smith and Rod Stewart. Waits coined the term 'rain dog', referring to lost dogs in storms, and the album is full of such lost characters. Originally released in 1985 on Island Records, it's now newly remastered from the original ½” flat master tape, personally overseen by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering under Karl Derfler's guidance. The album packaging has also been restored. Rain Dogs, available on 180g black vinyl, includes tracks like 'Downtown Train', 'Clap Hands', and 'Jockey Full Of Bourbon'.
To enjoy Tom Waits' Rain Dogs album, simply place the 180g black vinyl on your record player. Make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition for the best sound quality. When handling the vinyl, hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints on the playing surface. After each use, return the vinyl to its sleeve to protect it from dust and scratches.
