Live At Rockpalast

Richard Thompson, a British folk - rock pioneer voted one of the greatest guitarists ever by US magazine The Rolling Stone, wowed audiences in 1983. His acoustic picking skills are simply amazing. During his tour to promote 'Hand Of Kindness', on December 12, 1983, at the Hamburg Markthalle, the WDR recorded the show for Rockpalast. The 'Hand Of Kindness' studio crew was there live, including three FAIRPORT CONVENTION musicians who'd played with Thompson over ten years before: Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, and Dave Mattacks. Nearly seven weeks later, on January 26, 1984, at the French luxury resort Cannes during MIDEM, Richard Thompson & Band gave another great concert, also recorded by the WDR. Gerry Conway replaced Dave Mattacks, and Rory McFarlane took Dave Pegg's place as Pegg had studio work with JETHRO TULL. In both concerts, the musicians' long - standing harmony is evident. They work together seamlessly with Thompson, carrying his music and giving him the freedom to shine. These concerts are a must - have for every Thompson fan.
