Get your hands on the vinyl LP pressing of this 1982 album by the Ska musician. The album has musical support from some members of The Specials. Rico started his music career in the late 1950s, playing as a session musician with greats like Prince Buster, Laurel Aitken, and Max Romeo, and also creating his own recordings. He moved to the UK in the early 60s, continuing to perform live and work as a session musician. In the 70s, he signed with Island Records and released his first solo albums. In 1979, he met Jerry Dammers and began playing with The Specials, becoming an honorary band member and featuring on some of their most famous tracks, creating a unique sound with Dick Cuthell. In 1980, he released his first album for the 2 Tone label, 'That Man is Forward'. 'Jama Rico' was the second album on 2 Tone Records in 1982. It's a celebration of Jamaican musicians, with a more African - inspired rhythm and is a hidden gem in the 2 Tone label. The recording sessions were split between Joe Gibbs studio in Jamaica and London's Town House Studios. The Jamaican sessions, produced by Dick Cuthell, had musician friends like Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Headley Bennett, and Ansel Collins. The London sessions, produced by Dick and Jerry Dammers, included Specials John Bradbury and Horace Panter, along with Tony Utah and Satch Dixon. This newly remastered album, originally released in May 1982, is part of the ongoing 2 Tone '40th Anniversary' releases. It comes in a 3mm Spined Sleeve, 180gm Heavyweight Black Vinyl, with a printed inner and bellyband.
