Description

Preserved in Rashied Ali's tape archive on two reels, this long - awaited 2xLP set is finally out. It might be only the second time Ali led a band publicly. The band features top - notch musicians. The tunes predate all known parts of Ali's career as a composer or bandleader. In spring 1967, while still Coltrane's drummer, Ali gathered this group, possibly for just two music sets. It's the earliest documented work of tenor saxophonist Ramon Morris, who mastered John Coltrane's post - 1961 style. Trumpeter Dewey Johnson had his prime moment two years before, appearing on 'Ascension' with Coltrane. Pianist Stanley Cowell was emerging among the 'Young Lions', moving from Marion Brown's quartet to Max Roach's groups. Bassist Reggie Johnson was familiar with Slugs, having worked there with Ali and Cowell for two years. This unannounced gig likely only drew neighborhood regulars and Ali's associates. The musicians played with passion, bringing Rashied's loose - structured pieces to life. The stereo recording offers an immersive experience of the era's energy. Meticulous remastering has turned this East Village gem into a captivating, raw pearl from the 1960s black underground. It comes in a 2xLP gatefold tip - on jacket.

To enjoy this 2xLP vinyl record set, first, make sure your record player is in good working condition. Place the record gently on the turntable, and use the tonearm to lower the needle onto the starting groove. Let the music play and soak in the unique sounds of Rashied Ali's performance in 1967. When handling the records, always hold them by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches. After each use, put the records back in their sleeves carefully to protect them from dust. Store the records in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent warping. If you notice any dust on the records, use a soft record brush to clean them before playing. With proper care, you can enjoy this piece of musical history for a long time.
