Nina Simone, an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist, had a diverse musical style that combined classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Her unique style fused gospel and pop with classical music, especially Johann Sebastian Bach, and her contralto voice delivered expressive, jazz - like singing.
