Christopher Bono's epic orchestral requiem, Bardo, draws inspiration from four key areas: The Tarot System, The Tibetan Book Of The Dead, esoteric sound theories, and sacred geometry. 'Bardo I: Enter the Mystic' starts the psycho - spiritual journey from a state of isolated despair. It reaches a climax in 'Bardo II: The End of the Oligarchs' with the destruction of the archetypal Tower, symbolizing human social and psychological constructs. In 'Bardo III: Enter The Void', the music leads the Fool through tough experiences as described in the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The final movement, 'Bardo IV: Clouds Blooming at the Thought of Union', guides the Fool through the Sidpa Bardo, or the Bardo of transmigration, to the door of his next life. Each movement is preceded by ambient portals that serve as gateways to different musical environments.
