All Hail West Texas

All Hail West Texas is the final 'all - home - recordings album' by The Mountain Goats, and it's the only one truly fitting that description. Released about a decade ago on the late Emperor Jones as a standalone CD. Alex Newport, who played in Fudge Tunnel, transferred the songs from cassettes to 1/4' reels at Tiny Telephone. John was thrilled when he found out his tapes were EQ'd by the Fudge Tunnel guy. Remastered from those reels, with 7 unearthed songs from two surviving cassettes, this album marks the peak of The Mountain Goats' home recording era. No four - track was used; instead, a Panasonic boombox condenser mic was employed without overdubbing. Songs were recorded on the day of composition, often minutes after. Highlights like 'Jenny', 'Fall of the Star High School Running Back', and 'The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton' have made audiences worldwide yell 'Hail Satan' sincerely. Track list includes 14 great songs like 'Color in Your Cheeks', 'Fault Lines', etc.
