The retro thriller La Scoumoune, starring Jean - Paul Belmondo, is an electronic music gem in cinema. François de Roubaix, a pioneer and genius, crafted a unique score. He recorded each track on a different instrument. At filmmaker José Giovanni's request, de Roubaix connected barrel organs and synthesizers, adding unusual effects from rattles, files, and springs. Giovanni loved the catchy and naive refrain. The theme of La Scoumoune became popular outside the film, used as jingles and sampled by new - world artists, rappers, and DJs.
