Separation of Being

Free - thinking Jay Crocker, a composer, musician, and visual artist from Nova Scotia, also known as JOYFULTALK, combines Minimalism, Japanese environmental music, Maghrebian rhythmic modes, and other folk elements to create his most vibrant work yet. 'A Separation Of Being' is based on a huge, kaleidoscopic graphic score. Using homemade instruments and a majestic string arrangement by Crocker performed by Jesse Zubot, this album brings the score to life. Unlike typical visual scores that suggest openness and improv, JOYFULTALK's third album is a tightly - structured three - part suite. It features polyrhythmic grooves and new minimalism, with warmth from the strings and uniqueness from Crocker's custom instruments. The 'Separation of Being' here represents buoyant freedom through energy conduction. Crocker's 'The Planetary Music System' reached its peak with this album's score, a 5'x10' mural acquired by Nova Scotia's Art Bank in 2019. The CD and 180g LP come with detailed outer covers and reproductions of the full score, either inside the gatefold or as a 12' x 24' art print. This album showcases Crocker's 15 - year integration of sonic, artistic, and sculptural practices, making it a career - defining record of Canada's contemporary musical talent.
