Description

Originally a BBC serial, 'Quatermass and the Pit' (released as 'Five Million Years To Earth' in the US) was a 1967 Hammer Film Productions sequel to 'The Quatermass Experiment' and 'Quatermass 2'. Hailed as an early sci - fi classic, the film starts when workers in London Underground tunnels find 5 - million - year - old skeletal remains and a metallic object thought to be an unexploded bomb. Rocket scientist Professor Bernard Quatermass concludes the object is also 5 million years old and suspects the skeletons are from Mars. Things turn sinister when the object emits a powerful telekinetic force, causing affected people to go on a violent rampage in London. Composer Tristram Cary, known for scoring 'The Ladykillers' and 'Blood From The Mummy's Tomb', was into electronics due to his Royal Navy radar work. He set up early electronic studios, including the one that created the first portable synthesiser, the VCS 3. This vinyl release offers electronic cues from the film, giving a fascinating look into the start and development of electronic music in horror and sci - fi. The full orchestral soundtrack is available separately. Tristram Cary once said he took the job for the money, and the main electronic sound in the film was a violent shaking and vibrating noise from the 'thing in the tunnel'.

This vinyl record of electronic cues from 'Quatermass & the Pit' is a great addition to your music collection. To use it, simply place it on your turntable and gently drop the needle on the appropriate groove. Make sure your turntable is set up correctly and the speed is adjusted to 33 1/3 RPM for the best sound quality. When handling the vinyl, always hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches on the playing surface. After each use, clean the record with a soft, anti - static brush to remove any dust or debris. Store the vinyl in its sleeve and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. Enjoy this unique insight into the early days of electronic music in horror and sci - fi films!
