The outcome is this album full of evocative songs, comparable to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, Sun Kil Moon's Ghosts of the Great Highway, and Mountain Goats' Tallahassee. 'Cruise Night' brings back the Cars' teenage allure, 'Stop Error' evokes Bach, and 'When I Write my Master's Thesis' is inspired by Bob Dylan's 'When I Paint My Masterpiece'. Provincial is a record brimming with fierce, tuneful, and vivid stories.
