Osamu Kitajima, born in Chigasaki, Japan on Feb 3, 1949, started learning classical guitar and piano in childhood. In the 60s, with the rise of Beat and Rock, he joined his cousin's band 'The Launchers' before university. His cousin, Yuzo Kayama, is a well - known Japanese actor and musician. In 1971, as a successful jingle composer, he went to England for a year and got hooked on British Rock, especially Psychedelic music. Influenced by The Beatles and others, he started a solo career as JUSTIN HEATHCLIFF. His 1971 album was a classic Pop Psyche work. After returning to Japan, he ditched the English name and blended Western Progressive and Electronic music with Japanese Folk sounds.
