Discover Shirley Scott's deeply personal album, 'One For Me'. This album is a bold tribute to the music she always wanted to create, free from the constraints of her busy career. Self - funded and with careful curation of the band and tracks, it was supported by Harold Vick on tenor saxophone and Billy Higgins on drums. Originally released in January 1975 on Strata - East Records, it'll be available again on Arc Records from 15th May 2020. Shirley made this album to express herself freely. Her friend Maxine Gordon said Shirley was tired of being told what to do. As Shirley said on the LP sleeve, this album is her step towards honest music. Self - funded and with full control of the masters, Scott recorded at Blue Rock Studio in November 1974. Harold Vick, an 'unsung tenor saxophonist', and Billy Higgins, the most recorded drummer on Blue Note Records, joined her. Their success came from Higgins tuning his drums to fit Scott's organ bass. Shirley, known as 'Little Miss Half - Steps', had a close bond with George Coleman, honored by a track 'Big George'. 'Queen of the Organ' Shirley Scott had a legendary career, releasing 45 albums. Later, she became a professor. Now, Arc Records is bringing new light to this great work.
