Mothers Milk

Mother's Milk, the fourth studio album by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, hit the shelves on August 16, 1989, via EMI Records. After the tragic loss of founding guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons' departure, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea brought in guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith. Frusciante shifted the band's sound to focus more on melody. Producer Michael Beinhorn's love for heavy - metal riffs and overdubbing led to conflicts with Frusciante. This album was a commercial triumph, peaking at number 52 on the Billboard 200. Singles like 'Knock Me Down' and the cover of 'Higher Ground' got wide acclaim. It became their first gold record in 1990, paving the way for international success. Although it didn't receive as glowing reviews as its predecessor, it transformed the band from underground stars to mainstream icons with ease and eventually went platinum.
