The Nat Turner Rebellion, a Philadelphia soul - music group, is releasing their long - awaited debut album. Originally signed to Philly Groove Records, the group includes legends like Joe Jefferson (who sadly passed in July 2020), Major Harris, Ron Harper, and Bill Spratley, pioneers of Philly Soul and protest music. Their debut track, 'Tribute To A Slave', captures the revolutionary spirit of the 1831 uprising, from which the group took its name. Starting in 1969, NTR wrote and recorded many tracks, but only a few singles were released. Tensions with label head Stan Watson put the project on hold, and the tapes remained unheard for decades. In 2012, Reservoir Media found the tapes in the Sigma Sound Studios archive. With the blessing of the lone - surviving member Jefferson, the 14 - track collection, 'Laugh To Keep From Crying', had a limited US vinyl - only release last year via Vinyl Me Please. The album's themes are still relevant today. Now, Chrysalis Records and Reservoir Media are teaming up for a full worldwide release, featuring a bonus track, new artwork, and sleeve notes.
