The title represents two memorable concerts. 'Here' is a recording from the Royal Festival Hall in London during the summer of 1974, and 'There' is from New York City's Madison Square Garden on 28 November 1974. Part of the reason for this album's release was to meet a contractual obligation to DJM Records before Elton John launched his own Rocket Record Company with 'Blue Moves' in 1976. Music journalist Paul Gambaccini penned the liner notes for the original LP.
