Georgian Microjamz

Georgia's folk music, an early and rich polyphonic tradition, is little - known globally. Pianist/composer & arranger Giorgi Mikadze blends national pride, musical innovation, and an exploratory spirit. His debut album, Georgian Microjamz, masterfully fuses traditional Georgian folk music with progressive microtonal jazz. It uncovers a surprising link between Georgia's ancient Orthodox Christian vocal - only traditions and modern microtonal ideas from guitar legend David 'Fuze' Fiuczynski, Mikadze's former teacher at Berklee. Fiuczynski, along with bassist Panagiotis Andreou and drummer Sean Wright, brings this unique fusion to life. Georgian choir Ensemble Basiani adds stunning vocals on three tracks, and singer/ethnomusicologist Nana Valishvili delivers a heart - wrenching performance on 'Moaning', an ode to the 2008 Russia - Georgia conflict victims.
