During the early days of quarantine lockdown, Kaia Fischer of Rainer Maria conceived Exquisite Corpse while reflecting on the strange new reality faced by them and their creative peers. This real - time sonic experiment allows Polyvinyl's diverse talents to craft beauty amidst chaos. 47 participants formed 11 random groups of 4 - 5 musicians from across the Polyvinyl network. Each team composed an original song, similar to the 'Exquisite Corpse' drawing game. Musically, it's thrilling and unpredictable, with global collaborators from London, Tokyo, and more. Artists of different styles joined forces, and the results exceed expectations. Despite bearing the marks of early - pandemic uncertainty, the music is mostly joyful, daring, and fun. With contributions from long - time label acts like Xiu Xiu and new additions such as Palehound, Exquisite Corpse captures the Polyvinyl community spirit rooted in the Midwest.
