Blue Mountain, an American alt - country/roots rock band, was formed in 1991 in Oxford, Mississippi, by Cary Hudson (guitar and vocals) and Laurie Stirratt (bass and harmony vocals). Laurie is the twin sister of John Stirratt, the bassist of the Americana band Wilco. After their previous band, The Hilltops, broke up, Hudson and Stirratt returned to Oxford. Joined by drummer Matt Brennan, they started performing and recording roots rock. Released in 1995, Dog Days is a highly - regarded classic in the alt - country/roots rock scene.
