After the success of his 2016 critically - acclaimed album Dust to Gold, Cris Jacobs knew he had to approach the follow - up differently. 'This record gave me a new discipline and a higher level of focus, bringing out my best work,' he says. Color Where You Are is a Tom Petty - inspired album with an off - kilter, syncopated groove. For the first time, Jacobs wrote most of the album's songs in the studio at Richmond's Montrose Studios, working with band members Todd Herrington (bass), Dusty Ray Simmons (drums/percussion), and Jonathan Sloane (guitar) to develop ideas floating in his mind.
