Awakening of a Capital

After their bold double EP, Shape of Doomjazz to Come/Saxophone Giganticus, the Scottish free jazz - doom/stoner rock trio Nelson Mandoomjazz rocks again on 'Awakening of a Capital'. Led by Colin Stewart's powerful fuzz - bass lines and Paul Archibald's thumping backbeats, with Rebecca Sneddon's fiery alto sax, this trio named after Nelson Mandela and 'doomjazz' fights for freedom on their second RareNoise release. Tracks like 'The Stars Unseen', 'The Land of Heat and Greed' with Sneddon's wild multiphonics, and 'Poking the Bear' are intense. Sneddon also shows off her skills on 'Slay the Light', 'The Pillars of Dagon' with a string quartet, and 'Erich Zann'. This album is extremely heavy and dark, yet full of humor.
